Welcome to Perth Zoo

Perth Zoo’s White-cheeked Gibbons are part of an international breeding program which help raise awareness of this species plight in the wild.

How can you help Perth Zoo save the White-cheeked Gibbon?

White-cheeked Gibbons are one of the rarest apes in the world with mere hundreds thought to remain in fragmented populations in the wild of Laos and Vietnam.

Perth Zoo is considered a world expert in gibbon care, coordinating the pairing and breeding of the 19 White-cheeked Gibbons that live in the Australasian region. Our breeding program has seen 11 White-cheeked Gibbons successfully born in the past 35 years.

Perth Zoo also helps save gibbons in the wild through its support of Flora and Fauna International. Together, we are working in Vietnam to protect this critically endangered gibbon species and its habitat, including employing community rangers and providing community education to reduce threats to its survival.
