From our maintenance team to zoo keepers, veterinarians to front of house, administration, retail staff and many more, our team all have a special thing in common – a passion for saving wildlife and a love for the 1300 animals that live here.
Let us introduce you to some zoo-per members of our crew!
Emily Collins
Meet Emily Collins, one of our spectacular Education Officers in the Perth Zoo Discovery and Learning team!
Emily dedicates her time to teaching children about the precious species at Perth Zoo, and encouraging the next generation to save wildlife.
When Emily was studying, she was disheartened by the idea that it could be hard to find her dream job working with wildlife and children, but having achieved it early in her career she now wants to inspire others to pursue their conservation dreams!
In Emily's words, "If you combine your passions and work in a field that you love, and honestly if you do, you'll never work a day in your life."
Karen Hazell
We'd be 'lion' if we said we didn't love Karen!
Karen has had an amazing career working at some of our State’s most iconic attractions, like Rottnest Island and Kings Park and Botanic Garden. Now, she’s the brain behind our popular Zoo Shop!
Karen makes our Zoo Shop the best it can be, looking after our visitors, leading our retail team, and choosing the best eco-friendly products to support our conservation mission.
Get to know Karen and hear about her roar-some experience with our African Lioness sisters, Makebi and Uzuri!
Lee Carr
Whether he’s fixing habitats, building enrichment for our animals, or keeping the Zoo spotless, Lee is always there to perform maintenance miracles for us.
You know who else appreciates Lee? Our rhino Memphis!
Whenever Lee is working his magic on our Rhino scales, Memphis pops by to say hello.
Watch on to see their heartwarming connection!
Susan Baker
Susan traded tunes for tigers, and boy are we lucky she did!
After specialising in the music retail industry, Susan decided to pursue her childhood dream of working at the Zoo. Now she is one of our go-to gals, helping with crowd control, first aid, maintenance, ticketing, and opening the Zoo for our visitors, to name a few!
Her passion for conservation shines through in everything she does – so thank you for being on this wild journey with us Susan!
Mark Hodges
Say hello to our superstar Supply Officer, Mark!
Mark is the friendly face behind a lot of the Zoo’s operations.
Salt for penguin pools, uniforms for staff, bug food for primates, sand for habitats, vegetables for tree kangaroos, peanut butter for elephants, cleaning supplies, fuel for vehicles – if someone needs it, Mark will get it!
See why his passion makes our zoo a better place.
