Calling all biologists!
Biology Day at Perth Zoo is an amazing opportunity for year 11 students to investigate and consolidate their understanding of biology.
In this whole day experience, students will:
- Participate in education experiences delivered by Perth Zoo educators.
- Visit the Native Species Breeding Program to see conservation in action.
- The Western Swamp Tortoise will be a Case Study for conservation strategies to maintain biodiversity.
- Conduct fieldwork to understand different methods used to monitor biodiversity
- transects
- motion sensor cameras
- behaviour observations
- Use some of the species around the Zoo to practice (or learn) classification
- create classification keys
- Have an opportunity to explore the Zoo
Important Information
- $21.30 per student
- Biology Day educational operates from 9:45am -2:00pm. Please arrive by 9:30am for sign in.
- A teacher resource pack will be provided to continue your Zoo learning back at school.
- Bookings are limited to 60 students each day.
- Enclosed footwear is essential and weather appropriate clothing is recommended.

- emissions contributing to the enhanced greenhouse effect which impact climate change
Conservation strategies used to maintain biodiversity are
- genetic strategies, including gene/seed banks and captive breeding programs
- environmental strategies, including revegetation and control of introduced species
- management strategies, including protected areas and restricted commercial and restricted access
