While our orangutan family have a safe home at Perth Zoo, with no competition for habitat or food, life for their fellow great apes in the wild is hard.

Around 80% of orangutan habitat has been lost to logging, often for palm oil plantations. These magnificent primates are also poached for the illegal pet trade, with many young orangutans stolen from the jungle.
