Ever wondered what it’s like to work with Perth Zoo’s amazing animal residents?

We asked our zookeepers to spill a little behind-the-scenes on some of the unique characters that make our zoo so special!

P.s you can adopt one of these precious species this holiday season – it’s the perfect gift for the animal lovers in your life!

Asian Small-clawed Otter

"I love working with otters because every day is so different.

Our pair Sati and Squid are so energetic, and they really keep us on our toes all of the time!

They’re also the smallest species of otter so in my (totally unbiased) opinion, that makes them the cutest species of otter!" – Keeper Lisa.

Numbat

"There are so many things to love about Numbats! They are unique as they are the only marsupial in Australia that is fully active during the daytime.

In fact, they are so unusual that they’re categorised in a family on their own! We manage a Native Species Breeding Program to protect this unique species from extinction." – Keeper Vicki

Slender-tailed Meerkat

"One of my favourite things to do in our meerkat habitat is to switch up their ‘furniture’!

We call it a furniture and log move, and it makes our meerkat mob think they have a brand-new habitat, and they LOVE to explore.

It’s such a simple thing you can do but it has such a big impact for them!" – Keeper Sally

Give the gift of hope this holiday season by symbolically adopting an animal for your loved ones.
