From Monday 17 June, our expert horticulturalists will be doing some important work in our Rainforest Retreat to protect our beautiful, historic gardens against an invasive pest.
 
That means the Rainforest Retreat may be closed on your next visit – but don’t worry, you can still visit all of your animal friends!
 
You’ve likely heard that the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is monitoring an exotic beetle species which has been found throughout Perth’s metropolitan suburbs.

This invasive pest can severely damage host trees, with some dying within two years. There is currently no effective treatment option.

Some Zoo trees have become infected and have already been removed.  As we’re open every day of the year, it means there will be  times when we need to complete works during visitor hours.

We know works can be noisy and inconvenient when you’re exploring the Zoo, but this is the only way we can stop this pest in its tracks and protect our beautiful botanical estate.

Perth Zoo is an inner-city oasis, and we want to keep it that way!

Our teams are working hard to minimise disruptions to you and most of the work will be happening before we open. But please be aware some pathways may be closed at various times.
