Dear Zoo Family,
Over the last few weeks, we have been overwhelmed by messages of support from many of you – thank you. It has honestly made a difference whilst we have continued our vital work for wildlife behind closed doors. Although you haven’t been able to visit, our work has not stopped. We’ve continued our breeding programs for endangered wildlife, who still urgently need our help. And our keepers and vets are still caring for our animals, enriching them, and making sure they are happy and healthy.
Following the release of the COVID-19 coronavirus: WA Roadmap many of you, our valued members and supporters have been ringing or contacting us on social media asking, “when will our Zoo re-open?”. At the moment I cannot give you a specific date, but what I can tell you is that the Zoo is listed as a venue for re-opening in Phase 3.
However, implementation of Phase 3 will depend on the outcomes of Phase 2. It is an ever-evolving situation so things may indeed change. Just like other organisations and businesses we will continue to be guided by the advice of Government and the Chief Health Officer. So, while we have no firm opening date, we do have a broad schedule to plan for welcoming your smiling faces back to Perth Zoo.
Our staff and animals are looking forward to welcoming you back and helping you reconnect with nature and gain a deeper understanding of our native species and habitats. We're dedicated to ensuring you can connect, appreciate, relax and enjoy our beautiful Zoo and animals. For those of you who are feeling like you need a quiet day of fresh air, sunshine and animals, it hopefully won’t be too far away, but in the meantime, make sure you stay connected with us virtually. If you haven’t already, get your animal fix by signing up to our home safari where you can watch virtual keeper talks, download videos and activity sheets about various critters. Or catch-up with our giraffe herd thanks to the new live cam.
As always, thank you for your continued support, the Zoo family greatly appreciates it,
Wendy Attenborough
