They provide a home for nearly half of the world’s species to live or breed in, help to purify water, and they even protect us against floods!
And there’s a few easy things you can do to make sure our wetlands thrive.
Don’t be a litterbug
Rubbish has a way of ending up in our waterways.
Make sure you properly dispose of your litter and pick up any you see along the way.
Leave no trace when you are exploring our beautiful natural spaces and the wetlands will thank you!
Go green
Switching to eco-friendly and biodegradable products like organice fertiliser is a great way to protect the environment and stop any nasty chemicals getting to wetlands.
This is especially helpful when gardening to stop chemicals from soaking through to groundwater and into the water.
Save water, save wetlands
Shorten your showers, fix those leaky taps, and use water-wise appliances.
You can also plant native species in your garden! They traditionally require less water and are well adapted to our environment, thriving naturally.
Less work for you, and less water used!
Lead with love
Keeping dogs on leads and cats indoors can protect our wetland wildlife.
Cats are excellent hunters and can prey upon native wetland species and dogs can be a little destructive to the plant life!
By keeping your pawsome pals in check, your local wetland can thrive in peace.
