The Komodo National Park was established in 1980 to protect the dragons and their habitat. With your support, Perth Zoo funds a program that tracks, monitors and researches Komodo Dragons in their natural habitat in Komodo National Park.
How can you help Perth Zoo save the Komodo Dragon?
Komodo Dragons are only found on a few Indonesian islands. Between 2,500 and 5,000 dragons remain in the wild. To help protect the dragons and their habitat, Komodo National Park – which includes the islands of Komodo and Rinca – was established in 1980.
With your support, Perth Zoo funds a program that tracks, monitors and researches Komodo Dragon in their natural habitat in Komodo National Park. Perth Zoo partners with the Komodo Survival Program which works to protect the Komodo Dragon and its habitat. Beyond tracking and monitoring the dragons, the organisation also tracks their prey to ensure there is sufficient supply.
The Komodo Survival Program also engages the communities to protect the environment and trains local staff to assist with the research program on varying different levels.
