Sun Bears are so secretive it is difficult to know how many roam Southeast Asia’s forests. What is known is that their habitat needs protecting. Free the Bears has been working in Southeast Asia since 1997, employing a range of strategies to ensure that bears are protected and survive for future generations.
How can you help Perth Zoo save Sun Bears?
Since 2007, Perth Zoo has partnered with Free the Bears. With your support, we are currently funding research on the status Sun Bears and Moon Bears in Southeast Asia, assisting protection and in-situ conservation activity.
Over the past eight years Perth Zoo has funded mapping of wild bear populations throughout Indochina, as well as supporting scholarships for local conservation biologists and providing support to communities living close to wild bear habitat.
