Welcome to Perth Zoo

Tricia touched the hearts of everyone – none moreso than the dedicated team of zoo keepers who worked with her.

Steve Edmunds - Senior Elephant Keeper

Where do I start? People fell in love with Tricia within two minutes of meeting her. I have been with her for a third of my life.

As with everyone, during that period I have had happy and sad times in life. She was the best therapist in the world if you were feeling down. You couldn't spend time with Tricia without her lifting your spirits.

She was caring, playful and dignified. I love her to the moon and back.

Kirsty Carey - Senior Elephant Keeper

There are many special moments I shared with Tricia, especially those days when we took Tricia to some of her favourite grazing places around the Zoo and let her roam. She would be happily grazing and we were able to sit back and watch this amazing matriarch live her life the best way she knew how.

She had everyone in the Zoo wrapped around her trunk – what Tricia wanted, Tricia got.

Tricia was my world. A big chunk of my heart has gone with her, and the rest is here to support Permai through this extremely difficult time.

Jody Polson - Elephant Keeper

It’s safe to say that when you spend more time with those you work with than the people you have chosen to be a part of your life, you form an attachment. A relationship that one can’t really describe.

As much as I’ve always admired Tricia, she was the one who chose me. She chose me to be a part of her life. She chose me to share the rest of her life with.

And that is a feeling that cannot be put in to words. I just know it’s one I will always honour for the rest of my life.

Gavin Bourchier - Elephant Keeper

Tricia is best described as an affectionate, caring and thoughtful elephant.

Tricia was a very special elephant and even remembered me after I took a long absence from working at the Zoo. It was quite touching that she remembered who I was.

Tricia would seek you out just because she wanted your company and to be with you. It didn't matter how busy your day had been or what you had to do; having Tricia want to play and get scratches just brightened up your day.

Clair Holland - Elephant Keeper

Tricia was the greatest teacher a human could ever have. She taught me to listen, play, trust, respect, protect, forgive, love and support one another. To follow a great leader, find the best patch of sunshine and that bamboo tastes delicious.

My most special moments with Tricia were at the end of the day, saying goodnight. I'd wrap my arms around her and I loved listening and feeling her rumble beside me.

Thank you Tricia – you are our family. I will miss you and never forget you.

Ed Brown - Elephant Keeper

Tricia was a chilled and cheeky ambassador for elephants around the world.

She loved sneaking up on people when she was out for walks around the Zoo and often 'helped' the horticulture team by trimming (and eating!) branches from the gardens as she passed.

She will be missed.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, please donate to the Tricia Tribute to Conservation Fund. Your gift will help us care for the animals at Perth Zoo and build an elephant guard post in the Bukit Tigapuluh eco-system to protect one of the last remaining wild populations of Sumatran Elephants. Thank you for being a champion for wildlife.
