The Zoo’s dedicated animal carers carved special pumpkins packed with spooky surprises - the animals’ favourite treats like sweet potato, blueberries, and even crickets!
They wasted no time diving in, sniffing, scratching, and enjoying the frightfully fun enrichment.
Enrichment activities are a key part of the Zoo's top-notch animal welfare.
Each activity is designed carefully to challenge the animals and encourage their natural behaviours.
For the Black-and-white Ruffed Lemurs, Halloween means more than just trick or treats, because today is also World Lemur Day!
It’s a fitting coincidence that World Lemur Day falls on Halloween, as Lemur’s glowing yellow eyes and frightfully loud calls make these primates well suited for the occasion.
There are over 100 different species of Lemurs, and they all live in Madagascar.
Two species of Lemurs, black-and-white ruffed lemurs and ring-tailed lemurs, call Perth Zoo home.
But the scary truth is they are the most threatened group of mammals on Earth.
With over 98% of lemur species expecting to face extinction within the next 20 years. But we're doing all we can to stop extinction in its tracks!
Our Conservation Partner Madagascar Fauna & Flora Group
While our primate keepers give the very best to our groups of lemurs here at the Zoo, our work for these prosimians extends far beyond our gates.
We proudly partner with
Madagascan Fauna and Flora Group (MFG) to support their on-ground conservation efforts that protect wild habitats, train rangers, and safeguard Madagascar’s rich biodiversity.
Here's a special message all the way from Madagascar to show you their incredible work! We are SO proud to be able to support real, tangible work that is actively making a difference 💚
