Meetings are held in person at Perth Zoo with optional online check-ins available.

As written in the schedules, meetings will either be full day or half day.

• Full day: 9:30am-2:30pm
• Half Day: 9:30am-12:30pm
• Online: 1.5 hours at a time determined by the group

Meetings are organised and run by the Community Education Coordinator. Other Zoo staff members may be invited as special guests to present during the meetings.

Wear whatever you feel most comfortable in!

Don’t forget to dress for the weather. Sometimes we will be outside. Don’t forget your jacket if rain is forecast or your sunscreen and a hat if it’s a sunny day.

Bring your snacks and a drink bottle. Lunch will be provided on full meeting days. You can also buy food and drink at the Zoo’s vending machines and cafes – but please note, they are cashless venues.

Yes! You will explore the Zoo as part of the Youth Working Group meetings. If you would like to explore the Zoo by yourself before 9:30am or after 2:30pm, check with your parent/guardian if this is OK.

Let us know ASAP if you cannot attend a meeting. There are no make-up sessions offered, but we will ensure you are updated after any missed meetings. Please ensure you can attend a minimum of 8 meetings before applying for the Working Group.

We are an all-weather venue and there are plenty of places to work inside if it’s hot or raining. Meetings will go ahead unless there is a severe weather warning (we’ll notify you if this happens).

Youth Working Group members will have the opportunity to continue on as youth program mentors, assisting in the delivery of the 2027 Youth Program and mentoring younger participants.

At Perth Zoo, we pride ourselves on the way we care for animals. We prioritise the well-being and welfare of the animals we care for. You will get the opportunity to see and spend time with some of the animals at the Zoo, but you won’t be able to touch them.
