The Perth Zoo Youth Conservation Group (YCG) is proud to be working in partnership with Zoo staff to design and develop an exciting new initiative for young people—Youth at Perth Zoo.
This dynamic program is being created
by young people, for young people, ensuring that youth voices are at the heart of conservation action, leadership, and advocacy at Perth Zoo.
Introducing: Youth at Perth Zoo
Youth at Perth Zoo is an engaging and empowering program for passionate young people aged 13 to 19 years who want to make a real difference for wildlife and the environment.
The program is designed to:
- Provide valuable insight into how modern zoos operate
- Build knowledge in animal care, biodiversity, and conservation
- Develop leadership skills and confidence
- Empower young people to take action for conservation causes
Grounded in the principles of youth voice and advocacy, this program aims to inspire the next generation of conservation leaders.

The current Youth Conservation Group members are actively collaborating with Zoo staff to bring this new program to life. Their work is driven by a shared passion to inspire other young people and create a future where wildlife thrives.

Creating opportunities to collaborate with like-minded individuals while developing the skills and confidence to advocate for conservation—individually and collectively

Working alongside young people to strengthen and advance Perth Zoo’s conservation outcomes

Providing real-world insight into conservation work and helping prepare participants for careers in the field

Increasing opportunities for young people to contribute to program design, communication, and key Zoo initiatives
- Drive conservation action beyond the Zoo gatesSupporting youth to take meaningful action on Perth Zoo’s conservation campaigns within their communities and beyond
What’s happening now
The Youth Conservation Group is currently:
- Designing the Youth Program logo and uniform
- Developing engaging activities and learning experiences for other youth participants
- Engaging with young people to better understand the experiences, opportunities, and skills they value most in conservation
- Piloting and evaluating new activities, both on Zoo grounds and in offsite settings, to shape an engaging and impactful program
