Artist Darryl Bellotti
Darryl is an Aboriginal man of both Yamatji and Nyoongar ancestry, who is dedicated to the ongoing survival of Indigenous culture and traditions.
He is determined to use his creative abilities to ensure that traditional knowledge is passed from one generation to the next and that people from around the world get to share in his people’s rich and diverse culture.
The mural depicts the Waugul (Nyoongar Rainbow Serpant) as it traverses the Derbal Yerrigan (Swan River) creating the rivers, waterways, lakes and tributaries.
Parting the land, it creates the rivers as it travels, valleys as it carves its way through the hills and lakes in the places it rests.
Nyoongar people are depicted in the design, signifying their day-to-day activities and food gathering on the river, while the animal footprints represent the animals that are found near the river.
