Now found only in a few small areas of habitat in the south-west of Western Australia, we’re working to reintroduce numbats into the wild and rebuild their population.

As part of our Native Species Breeding Program, Perth Zoo has been breeding Numbats for release into protected habitats. Since 1993 over 225 Numbats bred at the Zoo have been released into the wild. With your help we can ensure a future for this endangered species.

How can you help Perth Zoo save Numbats?

With your support, Perth Zoo breeds threatened native Australian species for release into natural habitats as part of species recovery programs managed by the Department of Parks and Wildlife through Recovery Teams.

As part of our Native Species Breeding Program, numbats are bred for release into protected habitats. Perth Zoo has the only breeding program for numbats in the world. The program was established in 1987 with the first successful breeding in 1992 and the first release into the wild taking place the following year.

What Does My Donation Go Towards?

One hundred percent of your tax deductible donation will help protect wildlife as Perth Zoo covers all donation administration costs. General donations to Perth Zoo help us in our goal towards saving wildlife, including through our Native Species Breeding Program.
