Help us pick the perfect name for our Bolivian Squirrel Monkey babies!

It’s monkey mayhem at Perth Zoo with three Bolivian Squirrel Monkey babies born in the past three months!

Under the watchful eye of the our animal care team, the tiny trio are growing healthy and strong.

And they’re already starting to cause some monkey mischief!

Vivo’s son, the eldest, born in November, has quickly found his confidence. He is often seen playing with the older kids and climbing around the habitat.

The middle baby, born in December, is starting to show his curiosity by coming off his mum, Estrella’s, back for short trips.

And Sue’s son, the youngest of the trio, born in January, remains the most cautious, snuggling close to her as he takes in his surroundings at his own pace.

But the bouncing bundles of joy need a name!

Our keepers have picked out their favourite names but need YOUR help to choose the best.

As social primates, the arrival of babies brings a special dynamic to the group.

Other females in the troop will step into their natural ‘aunty’ roles to share the care of the infants.

This time, Diega and Reina have stepped into the aunty role, building relationships with the little ones and taking them on their very own aunty adventures.

We are now home to 14 Bolivian squirrel monkeys, including the three new babies, 7 females and 7 males.

Last year, the group celebrated the arrival of Miski, who has just turned one and is already helping keep the youngsters in line.

As one of only a few zoos in Australasia to successfully contribute to the regionally coordinated breeding program, Perth Zoo’s squirrel monkey descendants can now be found in zoos across the region.

In the wild, Bolivian Squirrel Monkeys are most at risk from habitat loss due to logging for the timber industry, land clearing for agriculture and the illegal pet trade.

Perth Zoo visitors can learn more and see the troop for themselves by visiting Amazonia.

The perfect time to see the pint-sized primates in action is during with the free keeper talk from 10:15AM on Mondays and Friday.
