Outdoor adventures, inside voices
Some of our animal residents love to make noise – our White-cheeked Gibbons often serenade passersby with their calls!
But remember, they also appreciate a little peace and quiet, and loud noises from humans can be stressful.
If you keep your voice low, you are more likely to see your favourite animal exploring their habitat.
Snack attack
Did you know our Sun Bear Jamran LOVES a tasty coconut?
Every one of our animals has their own special diet, carefully crafted by our expert vets to keep them in top-notch health!
While it might seem like a treat to share your popcorn with a penguin, feeding any animals, whether in our Zoo or in the wild, can make them sick and disrupt their natural eating habits.
Besides, leaving the animal feeding to our clever zoo keepers means more popcorn for you to eat!
Soak it in
Our biggest tip for your day at the Zoo is to take your time.
Getting outdoors is more than just a walk in the park! It’s a way to notice the little things and to fall in love with the incredible biodiversity all around you.
Slowing down will also give you the best chance of seeing our beloved residents.
All of our animals have choice when it comes to where they relax, roam and play in their home.
Just like wildlife watching, we always recommend a wait, listen and watch approach when visiting your animal friends. You’ll be delighted with what you see!
Look mum, no hands!
We know our animals are SUPER adorable!
But while many of them may look cute or cuddly, it’s best to admire them with your eyes, not your hands. That includes not tapping on the walls of their habitat.
Giving our animals space to relax and be themselves gives you the best chance of seeing them exhibit their natural behaviours!
If you want to go behind-the-scenes with your favourite species, you can book
an amazing Close Encounter.
Snap, don’t flash
We’re all about capturing precious memories from your wild adventure!
But bright lights can be stressful and unnatural for animals, so it’s important to keep it gentle on their eyes and turn off your camera flash.
Leave nothing but footprints
Litter is harmful to animals and plants, so by using the bins provided around the Zoo you’re helping to protect our 125-year-old urban oasis, AND the animals that call Perth Zoo home.
We’re even part of Containers for Change, so you can
keep your containers out of landfill AND make a difference to Perth Zoo’s vital conservation work!
Ask your burning questions
Our keepers and Docents love sharing their knowledge about the animals.
Whether you’re curious about a creature’s habitat, history, the best time to see them, or even their favourite foods – we’re here to help!
The more you know, the more you can appreciate all of the incredible wildlife around you.
Thank you for being a zoo-per considerate and kind visitor! You’re helping us to create the bear-y best environment for everyone – especially our 1300 animal residents!
You can visit Perth Zoo for FREE from 9 September 2024 to 30 November 2024, using your WA Government Perth Zoo Free Pass, through ServiceWA!
