They may not wear capes, but our zoo keepers are everyday heroes!

Their passion, patience and purpose make the Zoo extraordinary, and today we’re celebrating them!

For International Zoo Keeper Day we sat down with some of our incredible keepers and asked them what it really takes to care for animals and the environment – here’s what they had to say!

Why did you become a zoo keeper?

The milestone memory or a love for wildlife paved the way for their future careers.

Supporting each other

They stick together every day. Their shared passion and experience creates a bond like no other.

Working as a team

Our keepers work together to make sure no one ever feels alone in zoo life!

Who is your go-to problem solver?

Whether it's a surprise situation or unexpected challenge, every keeper has that one person they turn to when things get tricky.

Tell us your proudest moment

It’s the special moments that remind our keepers of why they do what they do is so important.

Top tips for aspiring zoo keepers

There’s a lot more to the job that meets the eye. Zoo keeping is incredibly demanding but deeply rewarding.

The role keepers play in wildlife conservation

Our keepers’ impact goes beyond the zoo gates, their working contributing to global conservation efforts.

It’s not just our keepers who have their proudest moments; we are so PROUD of them every day!

Our keepers are some of the wildest workers we know, and they care, conserve and connect us to wildlife.

Thank you to all our keepers for their unwavering commitment to wildlife and conservation. Perth Zoo wouldn’t be the same without you, and neither would the world.
