With temperatures predicted to rise to a flippin' hot 35 degrees today, Perth Zoo’s carers are busy keeping our animals devilishly cool!

Tasmanian Devils Makena and Cooee tackled a refreshing ice bucket in search of the hidden tasty mice.

Behavioural enrichment is an important part of all the animal’s daily lives and looks different for every animal.

In hot weather, they are given nutritious and refreshing icy treats, offered showers, hoses and misters, or have a refreshing bath to keep cool.

Not only do these activities help them cool down, but it also works to keep them mentally stimulated and challenged based on natural behaviours and instincts.

Pet-owners at home can follow suit in hot weather and create animal-friendly ice-blocks by freezing a portion of food for extra hydration.
