Friends of the Western Swamp Tortoise
Friends of the Western Swamp Tortoise raise awareness of Australia's most endangered reptile!
They hold a special place in our hearts at Perth Zoo, as we work in a collaborative conservation program to protect the species. Since the program began, we have bred more than 1,400 tortoises and more than 1,125 have been released into the wild.
To further this work, we provide in-kind support to Friends of the Western Swamp Tortoise, to raise awareness of their important work protecting precious swampies from extinction.
They provide education to schools and community groups, release captive-bred tortoises bred, conduct fieldwork such as revegetation and seed collecting, and more.
